Daily Reading: Judges chapters 1 thru 4

Key Verse: Judges 2:10

"Ron Luce the president and founder of Teen Mania Ministries, a few months ago, revealed startling information that affects every parent, youth leader, teacher, pastor, and concerned adults. Ron shared that the youth of our nation could be lost forever if the church does not do something. Christianity in America will not survive another decade. How is that possible? At the current rate of evangelism, it is estimated that only 4% of this generation of teenagers will be Bible-believing Christians by the time they reach adulthood.

Imagine an America at 4%:

Crime running rampant

The nation in a morale stupor

Church attendance dwindles

Tithes and offerings at an all-time low

New church buildings sit empty

Life-giving sermons go unheard

The role of a church leader becomes irrelevant " Pastor Vernon Hubbard

The condition of this Israeli generation is in direct relation to the willful disobedience of Israel to the command given in Deuteronomy 6. They did not teach the next generation to love God with their whole heart. They did not teach them God's Word. What happens to a generation that is not taught? They become lost and begin to do evil in the sight of the Lord (Judges 2:11). They serve Baal. It is not coincidence that with a lack of teaching comes an increase in sexual perversion. That is what the worship of Baal is.

I quote from the Westminster Dictionary of the Bible article 'BAAL' (emphasis mine)

"... Baal worship apparently had its origin in the belief that every tract of ground owed its productivity to a supernatural being, or baal, that dwelt there. The farmers probably thought that from the Baalim, or fertility gods, of various regions came the increase of crops, fruit and cattle ... The worship of Baal was accompanied with lascivious rites (1 Kings 14:24), the sacrifice of children in the fire by parents (Jer.19:5), and kissing the image (1 Kings 19:18; Hos 13:2). Baal was often associated with the goddess Astoreth (Judg.2:13), and in the vicinity of his altar there was often an Asherah. (Judg.6:30; 1 Kings 16:32-33,R.V.)"

Of the goddess ASTORETH the same dictionary says:

"... She was the goddess of sexual love, maternity and fertility. Prostitution as a religious rite in the service of this goddess under various names is widely attested. The identification of 'Ashtart with Aphrodite is evidence of her sexual character."

"Ashtaroth (plural of Astoreth). In connection with the plural of Baal, a general designation for the female divinities of the Canaanites ..."

"Asherah refers to a wooden pole or mast which stood at Canaanite places of worship (Exo.34:13); originally it was, perhaps, the trunk of a tree with branches chopped off, and was regarded as the wooden symbol of the goddess Asherah, who like Ashtoreth, was a type of fertility ... It was erected beside the altar of Baal. (Judg 6:25, 28)"

We can see from these quotes that Baal and Ashtaroth worship incorporated illegal sexual acts and that the Asherah was nothing but a phallic symbol. That word lascivious means lewd, lustful, licentious, lecherous, bawdy. In other words Baal worship was accompanied with sinful sexual acts; behaviour expressly forbidden in Jehovah's law.

Fertility can be correlated to materialism as the farmers sought to increase their crops. In the same manner, Americans seek to increase their wealth while they sacrifice their children to the fire (spiritual warfare). They sacrifice by a lack of time spent with them, no impartation of God's Word and by not being an example of Christlikeness for them to follow. An increase in child pornography, internet predators leads us to ask why? But the answer is clear, we are to instruct them in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).

A mother wakes up one morning to find her 15 year old pregnant daughter has run off with a 34 year old man that she met on Myspace (true story). The mother wonders what happened? Could it be that Sex in the City or Girlfriends trained her in the way she should go?

Here is some recent info, I came across.

What does Hollywood desire? It desires not to entertain but to educate. It wants to train our children and us how to dress, how to relate to each other and what "normal" sex is. Its goal is to destroy through the ammunition of sex and violence - God's desire for the family and for the individual. Hollywood shapes values. 80% of teenagers under the age of 18 have seen an X rated movie. 25% will try to act out what they have witnessed in a matter of days. The industry is fueled by a desire to make us an addict. One movie executive commented that the addiction to movies is stronger than the addiction to crack. A leader of MTV commented that "our intention is not to get young people to think logically but to go for their desires because if we have their desires we have them." We, as Christians, laugh at stuff that grieves the heart of God. A sitcom writer commented "our intention is to make people laugh at adultery, homosexuality and incest. Laughing breaks down your resistance to it." I guess that is why tolerance is the key word for this generation. We tolerate everything.

My husband and I recently were convicted by the Holy Spirit in regards to the Dave Chappelle Show. We thought we were just laughing at comedy, but we were convicted to realize how our laughter at things God holds sacred was offensive to Him. We have since gotten rid of our DVDs. Not only for our sake, but for the sake of our children and for the sake of our witness. We desire not to live a double standard life. We desire to be "living sacrifices, holy and acceptable." Not weird or fanatical - just set apart.

My Situation:

UnGodly things I didn't like before, I began to like and the same blind unGodly people that I desired to minister to, I became friends with, furthermore; starting to share the same worldly activities and thoughts as they had. I begin to wonder to myself what has happen to my Christianity.

I was once a minister, now I’m the one who needs ministering. Sex, lust, and cursing has become my norm, the guilt poured in continually, knowing that I was doing wrong by Him.

My Prayer:

I ask Lord, please forgive me, of my crazy behavior, and desire for girls. To also be in better fellowship with you Lord. For I have almost slipped, I was almost gone.

Father I thank you in advance, for restoring me spiritually, assisting me in changing my sinful ways.

My Comments:

I prayed this pray about a year ago, and he has done just that, delivered me from that "Baal Worship". After reading Pastor Baker blog, I realized that I was blind, and have lived each line for myself. Something I learned is to

NEVER PLACE A CAP ON WHAT GOD CAN DO FOR YOUR LIFE.

I am really afraid (pray for) for those parents who don’t impart into their children Godly principals teaching them righteous living, deliverance and intimacy with the Lord. Perfect example….last school year, my daughter’s 6th grade classmate went into labor at the beginning of the school year in the restroom, which means she conceived in the 5th grade. Also, last school year, another little girl in the 6th grade died with meningitis; it was later discovered she contracted the virus through sexual intercourse. Just think about where we are headed if the saints don’t it get right with God in order to effectively fight this battle….I have sown into my two girls (12) & (15) since they were babies and it’s been “ALL OUT WAR” to keep them pure. I have become a living witness that through God all things are possible…. I am certain that if I wasn’t filled with the Holy Spirit and didn’t have an ear to hear the warnings concerning them; they would be seriously entangled in the web of lust and deceit. I have always monitored what they’ve watched on television, which really isn’t a regular for us (watching TV), never allowed them to listen to secular music and never allowed the “sleep over” thing….but I have found out this one thing…..it’s them against the world. For many years I have studied deliverance (casting out demons) and self deliverance (expelling demons) and have imparted this knowledge into my children as well. The battle has come with getting them how to use their spiritual weapons. They have been made to feel like outcasts in the schools because good in now bad…..so they struggle in this area. Several months ago, I discovered that both of my girls had their picture posted on a dating webpage (bebo) using terrible profanity. It was only through prayer that the Holy Spirit revealed this to me. I am constantly receiving blows to the stomach concerning my children, but God has never allowed them to go so far that they become tainted. THANK YOU JEUSU!!!!! Their position in the Kingdom depends on my enduring like a good soldier; keeping on the whole armor of God and after having done all, to stand! I can protect them at home but they have learned so many ungodly things at the schools and on the bus. I have to fervently pray without ceasing. I apply the Blood of Jesus upon their entire being; dispatch the angles that God has given charge over them and pray that the Holy Spirit lead and guide them in all truth….I even call forth the archangels to assist in warring on their behalf in the heavenly. I never imagined my warfare would be so great. Folks are amazed when I tell them that I haven’t dated “literally” in 5 years because my main focus has been towards maintaining my girls’ purity in their bodies, minds, spirits and souls. To be honest with you, the severity of sexual perversion among the men and women (especially in the church) has frightened me. When I hear about the acts of men (down low) in the last days, being alone doesn’t bother me as it did in the past. I have friends who have Aids (sexually transmitted) and am familiar with folks who have dropped dead from this deadly disease (plague). Something has to change…if grown folks can’t rule over their own flesh then how can our children survive? How can we direct them if we’re entangled in the webs of hell? Children suffer for the sins of their parents. I always ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden thing within me, especially from my past that would hinder my children’s liberty and walk with God. I reverse the curse from the first to the tenth generation and send the demons back to the sender……We must pray like never before….Our nation is in a desperate situation that only God can change through prayer and fasting. If you don’t want true deliverance…then don’t read it because it’s deep and you’re destined to be delivered through this powerful book. I pondered on the last question that was posed and came to the conclusion that it very well could have been what the young lady was watching on T.V. that influenced her behavior. A long time ago, Pastor Baker told us the story of a man who was always able to predict which one of his fighting dogs would win any given competition. When asked how he was able to accomplish this, he exclaimed that which ever one he fed the most was the one that would win. It's the same with our flesh and our spirit. Which ever one we feed the most will win and that is why it is so very important to monitor what we allow to enter our minds. Whether it be from T.V., radio, books, or the Internet we must be careful not to give heed to what our flesh wants to do; and even the things that enter against our will cannot be disabled by just sitting in church one or two days out of the week and listening to the preacher. The only way to truly combat those things is to get into the word, meditate, and talk to God daily. Only then will our spirit overtake our flesh. As stated several times before we are all a work in progress and I'm positive that we will reach the point of really, totally walking in the Spirit.
