Daily Reading: Matthew 25 thru 28

Key Verses: Matthew 25: 31-46

God will separate his obedient followers from pretenders and unbelievers.  The real evidence of our belief is the way we act.  To treat all persons we encounter as if they are Jesus is no easy task.  What we do for others demonstrates what we really think about Jesus' words to us - feed the hungry, give the homeless a place to stay, look after the sick.  How well do your actions separate you from pretenders and unbelievers?

Jesus used sheep and goats to picture the division between believers and unbelievers.  Sheep and goats often grazed together but were separated when it came time to shear the sheep.  Ezekiel 34:17-24 also refers to the separation of sheep and goats.

This parable describes acts of mercy we all can do every day.  These acts do not depend on wealth, ability, or intelligence; they are simple acts freely given and freely received.  We have no excuse to neglect those who have deep needs, and we cannot hand over this responsibility to the church or the government.  Jesus demands our personal involvement in caring for others' needs (Isaiah 58:7).  The focus of this parable is that we should love every person and serve anyone we can.  Such love for others glorifies God by reflecting our love for Him.

The Maker of the Universe
As man for man was made a curse;
The claims of laws which He has made,
Unto the uttermost He paid.
His holy fingers made the bough
Which grew the thorns that crowned His brow.
The nails that pierced His hands were mined
In secret places He designed;
He made the forests whence there sprung
The tree on which His body hung.
He died upon a cross of wood,
Yet made the hill on which it stood.
The sky that darkened o'er His head
By Him above the earth was spread;
The sun that hid from Him its face
By His decree was poised in space;
The spear that spilled His precious blood
Was tempered in the fires of God.
The grave in which His form was laid
Was hewn in rock His hands had made;
The throne on which He now appears
Was His from everlasting years;
But a new glory crowns His brow,
And every knee to Him shall bow.

It's easy to get off track as a christian in the world we live in, most of us become pretenders unwantingly, but we have to try to remain focused, and very prayerful.
