Daily Reading: Mark chapters 1 thru 4

Key Verse: Mark 1:17

Being a fisher of men involves more than just witnessing to people concerning their salvation.  When Jesus called Simon and Andrew, He said to follow Him.  He purposed to give the disciples and us a model of servanthood.  If servanthood is the model, then people are the ministry.  Some people are servants to jobs, programs and activities and not to the people divinely placed in their lives for them to serve.  Our efforts have to be focused on being a servant of others and not a servant of things.  When we realize that serving people is the ministry, then we must roll up our sleeves and get involved in touching lives.  We shouldn't take for granted the people God places in our paths especially if we believe He is ordering our steps.  Every person we come in contact with has a purpose and God may be calling you to service.  People who were in need of Jesus' service were never a bother to Him.  Jesus was drawn to people who were in need.

There is need all around us.  When we submit to the Spirit and allow Him to develop the spiritual gifts He has given us, then we too can serve as Jesus served.  What has Jesus called you to do since you have decided to follow Him?

One thing I have realized is that growing in your gifts means being taken out of your comfort zone. There are situations and people I have had to face that I never thought I would encounter. I am learning to rely on the Spirit for His divine guidance. The more I step out in faith, the more I grow. I am looking forward to seeing who I will be ten years from now.
