Daily Reading: 1 Chronicles Chapter 21 thru Chapter 24 Key Verses: 1 Chronicles 21:1-3 Could David have used the excuse, "the devil made me do it"? No! Satan can only tempt people to sin and David fell for the temptation. Counting people was not the sin but David's motives for counting the people was the sin. Satan's temptation was to have David act on his pride. Pride caused David to rely on his military strength. His trust was shifting from the power of God to the strength of his men. Temptation is always connected to the sinful nature inside us all. We may do acts that are not wrong in themselves but can be sinful if they are motivated by pride, greed, or selfishness. We must check our motives behind every action to ensure we are not sinning against God. Lord search our hearts, clean them, and renew a right spirit in us. 2008-06-16 14:10:48 GMT

I pray that we all remain humble and not let our pride cause us to turn away from God's direction for our lives. In Jesus name, Amen.

David was wrong, and he accepted punishment as due. I recall times when I did wrong, and had no desire to face or accept being punished. Thank goodness- we serve a God, who is compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. I am grateful for His grace and His mercy. For I am sure that's what kept me, and keeps me from suffering punishments that I probably deserve.

You would think that David could recognize being tempted or tested. Coming from Satan it was a temptation. If David would have consulted with God about the census. He would have known that it was a test from God. David knew that the strength of his army that God gave him was from God. He was distracted by his on motives. I can relate to David's motive issue. When I was creating my lesson for ECG class I begin to allow my competitive nature to drive me to have a better message than the rest of the leadership team. So I thank God for showing me that I can’t have alternative motives in anything I do. That it is consider sin when that happen. Father God help me to walk in spirit and in truth at all times in Jesus Name Amen
