Daily Reading: 2 Chronicles Chapter 8 thru Chapter 11

Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 11:4

It is common today to hear of a church splitting.  Some people go one way and the others go another way.  It is difficult to see the hand of God in a church split.  We see the nation of Israel split and almost go to war with each other.  The amazing aspect of this is that God says it is from Him.  God blessed David and allowed him to become wealthy and powerful among the kings of the earth.  God blessed Solomon to become the wisest, richest, and most powerful king ever.  Why would God build a nation so strong then split it into two nations?  Why would a God of unity allow division?

This story shows that when a prophecy is of God it will come to pass. God told Solomon that Israel would split during his son's reign because he built altars to the gods of his foreign wives. Just as God told him, Rehoboam caused division in Israel and it split.

If we look at claims of today(and throughout history), we see how many people claim they are of God, but none of their prophecies come to pass. The sad part is people continue to follow them even when their prophecies do not come to pass. I pray that we all are able to discern when a message is of God and when it is not. I pray that we are not fooled by desires our hearts (or anyone else's) and hear clearly from God on every matter, so there will be no shock when the things of His desire come to pass. In Jesus name, Amen.

The Tower of Babel was a structure discussed in Genesis 11. It was an enormous tower intended as the crowning achievement of the city of Babilu (kkadian name for Babylon) Babel was a city that united humanity, all speaking a single language and migrating from the east; it was the home city of the great king Nimrod, and the first city to be built after the Great Flood. The people decided their city should have a tower so immense that it would have "its top in the heavens." However, the Tower of Babel was not built for the worship and praise of God, but was dedicated to the glory of man, with a motive of making a name for the builder. God seeing what the people were doing, confused their languages and scattered the people throughout the earth. God, the creator of all things, allows division when he is no longer the center and he needs to get the people's attention. Being unified and harmonious should not be the goal. In all things, we must worship and praise God and keep HIM first.

Is This God or is this my conscience will?

Thats a question that most of us have to ask ourselves from time to time. Unlike in the key verse, God does not speak directly verbally to us. (I wish He did) Discerning for ourselves is this God plan or is this my conscience telling me to do this. I was speaking about this very topic with a up group last week they all agreed that its when almost everything falls into place that the person can know for sure thats Gods Will.

Another point here is the obedience of the people turning and doing what God commanded of them. How beautiful? What a great example for us?

Just do it!

Sometimes division is necessary, not only to get our attention, but to further God's word. We can become complacent even in our devotion to God. We become familiar with routine and set boundaries on ourselves attempting to put God in a box. When we are forced to severe ties with the familiar and step outside of our comfort zone, God is glorified. Often times our way becomes clearer when we are forced to take a new path because we tend to focus more and depend on God. As a result, others are drawn to the light that God has provided and an otherwise lost soul is exposed to His awesomeness!

I think God is always providing protection for his people. It has to be a reason why God allow division among his people. If God allows division we know that it is for our good. We know that God desire unity, but some people hearts are harden and it's best that division happen. God may allow a division in order to fulfill his greater purpose.
