Daily Reading: Isaiah chapters 37 thru 40

Key Verses:Isaiah 40:28-31

Hurry, worry and bury - is that an accurate description of this generation?

Stress: the gap between demands placed upon us and the strength to meet the demands.

We have a promise of strength to meet life's challenges. In vs. 31, Isaiah states that the Lord will renew our strength.  This literally means that God will exchange our frail, human strength for His all-powerful strength.  In essence, the Christian life is not so much a changed life but an exhanged life. Amen.

How do you wait on the Lord?  The secret of strength is in the words "wait on."  Contrary to popular belief, waiting is not an exercise in passivity but in activity.  Waiting upon God takes some initiative.  It means you actively pursue God- mind, body and soul.  This involves:

1. Longing for the Lord

2. Listening to Him

3. Looking to Him

4.  Living for Him.

If you have stress, find quiet time with God.

Waiting means serving. A "waitor" serves others.  Isaiah gives us a program of service in 40:31, "They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

There are 3 things that cause stress: adversity, opportunity and necessity.  In adversity, there are storm-like conditions.  Eagles look to storms because storms cause them to soar.  Eagles rise above the storm.  Rising above the storm allows them to see further and fly faster.  God gives strength for elevation and acceleration.  With opportunity comes acceleration as well.  We run to something we see as a blessing on our lives.  However, no one should attempt more than they can pray over.  Finally, in necessity, we find determination where the best and the highest are sought.  Not one of us would willfully starve because of a lack of food.  Out of a desperate need, we will fight to live.  Stress: God fills the gap, but we must actively wait on Him.

What are you doing while you wait upon the Lord?

My mother always told me to let go and let God. I never understood that until now. If I have stress, I should seek God more. It is such a simple concept, but so hard to do sometimes because you have to let go and realize that you cannot control it. However, in seeking God during stress, there is such an exchange: His peace for your chaos, His wisdom for your rationale, His joy in your sorrow and His love in an unloving world. I have found that through worship His presence surrounds and comforts me. I am thankful for a loving God that cares enough to comfort.

In this period of waiting on the Lord I've found myself drawing nigh to Him. Really getting into His word more often and seeking Him in more areas of my life. Of course I become stressed every once in a while, but I just thank God I never stay in that place very long because I know that He has great things in store for me. When think about all the times He’s come through for and provided for me I can’t wallow in the stress that I feel and must keep pressing toward the mark. What has become one of my favorite scriptures comes to mind, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” So whether it’s spiritual, mental, emotional, financial, or physical, seeking His kingdom first will ensure that all your needs and some of your desires, that are in the will of God of course, will come to fruition.
