Daily Reading: Psalms 29 thru 32
Key Verse: Psalm 30:5 When a parent spanks a child because of the child's disobedience, the parent's anger and the child's pain are momentary. However, the discipline provides a far greater reward. The rebuke allows for correction and growth. It gives the child a greater understanding of the wrong that was done. It also helps to prevent the child from engaging in that behavior again. Just as a good parent openly rebukes their child, God disciplines us {Hebrews 12:7-11}. God is producing in His children fruits of righteousness. There are four ways we can respond to God's discipline: 1. We can accept it with resignation. 2. We can accept it with self-pity, thinking we don't deserve it. 3. We can be angry and resentful towards God. 4. We can accept it gratefully as the appropriate response we owe a loving Father. If we respond in any way other than an attitude of gratitude, then we will miss the promise which is that "weeping may last for the night but a shout of joy comes in the morning "{Psalm 30:5}. 2006-11-22 18:15:42 GMT

It is quite difficult in the natural to receive correction. In the moment, one might possibly respond in ways that are not exactly grateful. It is much easier to be grateful after the fact when the lesson is clear. However, realizing the purpose-to produce fruits of righteousness- makes it easier to be grateful going forward.
