Daily Reading: Proverbs 17 thru Proverbs 20 Key Verse: Proverbs 17:6 It is truly a blessing to see the next generation advance beyond the current generation. My children are learning thing in the first grade that I learned in the fourth grade. I truly believe that it pleases God to see how the generations are progressive. I can't even imagine what my grandchildren's generation will be learning. I understand that I will be so proud and blown away that they will be my crown. We have a responsibility to God to continue in revealing His nature and revelation from His word. Each generation should progress in the Spirit. God is the Father of all generations and we are His glory. God should be so proud and overwhelmed by how we are operating in the Spirit that His crown and His glory shines brightly. We should bring so much glory to God that it gets too heavy to be contained in heaven that it begins to fall to the earth. Then we may bask in His glory. Give glory to God today and add to the weight. 2008-12-09 12:56:34 GMT

It is truly a blessing for God to allow his people to see their grandchildren. Every good gift comes from above. I thank you Father for giving me children. In Jesus Name Amen

Although I’m a ways off from being a grandparent, I can see why Solomon would say the children of your children are a crown. We do our best to instill the proper values in our children but the real test is how far they take our values. A good sign would be if they install these values in their children, as opposed to dropping everything we taught them as soon as they leave the house. Then we can see our fruit as a crown which will carry these values into future generations. Notice Solomon didn’t specify whether the crown would be a good or bad one, so if you have installed improper values (not in line with God’s will), your crown may be one of shame. I pray that we instill God’s will in the hearts of the future generations, so that they can be a crown of glory not just to us as parents and grandparents, but most importantly to their Heavenly Father. In Jesus name, Amen.

"A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue." These two verses stood out to me because I am currently engaged in research about language. One of the theories I have discovered is the fact that one's language creates their reality. On a spiritual level, one can liken it to self-fulfilling prophecy. It kind of goes back to the concept of the glass half-full or the glass half-empty. Words have so much power. The Word (Jesus Christ) demonstrates that power in the words He spoke in healing and delivering people. There are so many different ways to say the same thing. I can say that a person is aggravating or I can say that they are enthusiastic. How I define a person determines my interaction with them? When we think about titles (job titles, church titles, family titles), does not the title influence how we think about the person? If someone is a mother, our predetermined concept of mother determines how we engage with that person. I personally have a problem with housewife. In my seminary experience, I feel that people cannot understand how I get the grades I get so they tell me (yes they tell me) that I am a housewife so that is why I have the ability to make better grades than them. They have a "real job" so they do not have the same kind of time that I have. Wow! That reduces all that I do down to one word. If I had not been delivered from the opinions and words of people, I could become really depressed about that and think less of myself. However, I know my schedule. I know my life. I know my goals. As I grow in Christ, I learn more about me that makes me appreciative of the me that God has made. But what about the people who have not had my deliverance experience? What language creates their reality? What words are they living with that were spoken over their lives years or decades ago. That is why I love these verses a wise man uses his words with restraint - there is thought that goes into what he says because he is wise enough to understand the impact of the words. Spiritually, he understands that God created the world with His Word. The wise man knows what type of world he wants to live in and creates that world with his words. There is nothing supernatural about that - it a simple concept. If I want to have good relationships, I use words that build rather than destroy. Even a fool can be thought of as wise by restraining his tongue. --Aundrea J Baker <mailto:abaker@thewaybiblefellowship.org>
