Daily Reading: Joshua chapters 9 thru 12 Key Verse: Joshua 10:25 As Joshua began the conquest of the Promised Land, he faced three enemies: Jericho, Ai, and the Gibeonites. These three enemies of Joshua represent the enemies of the Christian. Jericho represents the world; Ai represents the flesh; and the Gibeonites represent the devil. Jericho represents the world. How do you overcome the world? By faith. Ai represents the flesh. How do you overcome the flesh? Not by fighting it, but by recognizing your weakness, confessing to God, and letting the Spirit of God get the victory. The Gibeonites represent the devil. They tricked Israel by pretending to be from a land far away. They made sure that Joshua knew this by pointing out there worn out clothes and moldy bread. Isn't it just like the devil to distract you from your purpose? God told Joshua that Israel should destroy everything in their path. That means everything. The major mistake Joshua made was that he did not consult the Lord before making a treaty with the Gibeonites. Ephesians tells us that by putting on God's armor we will be able to stand against the trickiness of the devil (Eph.6:11). So, how do we overcome the devil? Simple, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7). This is a prime example of the devil's schemes. He does not use obviously evil or sinful methods. He simply gets you by getting your focus off of God. Seek ye first...(Matthew 6:33). Have you ever consulted God before making a trip to the mall? Have you ever consulted God before watching a movie or a T.V. program? The devil dwells in the everyday as well. 2006-09-19 14:15:24 GMT

The simple things are always the hardest. Once engrained in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to become lost in worldy living. Not neccessarily committing the "big" sins that we like to pat ourselves on the back for not getting drawn into; but the sin of not giving God all that we were created to give him. Today, I'd like to start by truly seeking him in ALL my decesions, not just those that I can't handle. Today, I pray that I walk in the steps that he has already ordered. Today I will allow his spirit to speak while I listen. Today....

I had to realize that whether I though it was big or small, all of our decisions are the same size to God. I pray that I never again fall into the trap of handling the small stuff myself and saving the big for God. It points back to 1 Corinthians 10:31 – everything that we do should be for the glory (doxa) of God.

I have to agree with Rev. when he says the simple things are the hardest. It's so easy to sit and watch T.V. or go to the mall without consulting God first, because you don't want to feel like your being petty with what you are taking to God. Now that I'm learning and growing spiritually I realize there's nothing too "big" or too "small" for God to guide me through and I thank Him for that revalation.

God goes to great lengths to let us know how much we mean to Him. All of His children’s names are engraved on the palms of His hand (Isaiah 49:14-16). God wants us to feel comfortable resting on Him for everything we want and need. God desires for His throne to become a rocking chair for Him to quiet our fears with love and rejoice over us with singing (Zephaniah 3:17). The Lord delights in us so we should take the time to commune with Him daily on our walk with Him.
