Daily Reading: Isaiah chapters 9 thru 12

Key Verse: Isaiah 10:5-6

If you keep up with current events by watching the news or reading the paper, you probably saw where the Venezuelan leader told the United Nations that President Bush is the devil and that Bush thinks he owns the world.  You may have also heard that the war in Afghanistan has increased, an endeavor that was supposed to be relatively simple because we are after all the great and mighty US of A.  Interesting.

Could it be possible that God has turned His wrath against a godless nation which has devoted itself to worshipping idols (money, entertainers, athletes, religion)?  In Isaiah 10, God clearly tells Isaiah how He will use Assyria to discipline Israel. He sends Assyria against a people who "anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets" (Is. 10:6).  Do you ever wonder how seemingly smaller nations like Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, etc. have such a hatred against the US and why they have become such a thorn in our side?  Are why one man namely Osama bin Laden has completely changed the US way of life (you can't bring mouthwash on an airplane)?  We are having to rewrite laws and change our way of living because of one man whom the greatest of US technology still cannot find.  Interesting.

Have you ever thought about how you have been deceived: by your flesh, by the world, by the devil?  Galatians 6:7-10.

I have certainly been deceived by my flesh, the world, and Satan on several occasions and I am learning, through this process, to watch out for all of those pitfalls. However, I'd like to turn the focus off of me and talk about the U.S. in general right now. As you mentioned, in the above statement, the U.S. has become a "godless nation which has devoted itself to worshipping idols (money, entertainers, athletes, religion)". Even to the point where we can't mention the name of God in schools or display the Bible outside a courtroom. In my opinion, this is the largest deception that Satan has accomplished; leading a whole nation of people to believe that they can go through life without God. I for one believe that things will only continue to worsen unless we, as a nation, come to the realization that nothing is possible apart from God and that all the "things" that people feel they have acquired without Him are only temporal and will burn up in the fire.
