Daily reading: Zephaniah Chapter 1 thru Chapter 3

Key Verse: Zephaniah 1:8

I remember when Dickies (pants and work jumpsuits) and t-shirts became the trendy clothes among our nation's youth.  This trend was birthed in the inner city because they could not afford any of the other trendy clothes.  Dickies were cheap and they had a variety of colors.  All of a sudden everybody had on some Dickies and a t-shirt.  Children from the suburbs, Hollywood, entertainers, and others from all walks of life began to look like these inner city kids.  I imagine at some point there was a parent who looked at their child and realized that they looked like somebody else's child.  This was God's reaction when He saw His children "wearing pagan clothes."  God's people desired to worship foriegn gods and adopt foriegn ways.  Any time children of God adopt pagan culture it is in direct opposition to God and His ways.  Who's clothes do you have on?  We are to clothe ourselves in the righteousness of Christ.  We are to put on garments of praise and always wear the full armor of God.  Does God recognize you when He sees you?  Do you look like somebody else's child?  Be an example to everyone around you that you only wear God's gear.  May God richly bless you.

Keeping up with "new trends" and fashion today becomes difficult; especially since these things are constantly changing. Though, I've come to find that our Lord Almighty has a trend that remains the same. HALLELUAH! It's time that all His children grab hold to His word and following His ways, so that when that day comes- He will call each of us by name and our garments won't look foreign to Him. Amen! God is magnificent and He loves us dearly. This, I know will always be. In Jesus name- Amen.

I have to ask myself, "Do I look like the world or do I look like a child of God?" I think my answer for myself lies in my level of spiritual maturity. I do not look as much like the world as I used to, but at the same time there is some remaining pieces still floating around in my flesh. When I look at great spiritual leaders such as Mother Theresa, I wonder how did they make the decision to totally abandon worldly pursuits and pursue God. Upon further inspection of their lives, you realize they had the same concerns and fears as the average Christian. The only difference is that they consciously moved past those issues and chose to trust God no matter what. I believe that is what is missing in my level of spiritual maturity - the full and complete ability to trust God no matter what. Thank God that His grace is sufficient to hold me up until I get there.

When others see me, I hope that it’s more of Christ that they see. That’s a very hard standard or image to live. But with God nothing is impossible. His garments, mindset, His words, His focus, I would like to have it all. Just like God wants for me.

I can think of numerous times where I have done something that I should not have and it appeared as if I was wearing “foreign garments.” As if I wasn’t even a Christian.

Foreign garments don’t look to good on me. Those who were trying to better their life by allowing me to be their physical Christian example, dropped me as their example, and I became just another dude to them.

As Christian’s we will all fall daily but, we cannot sit in it and permit it to tow us downhill.

Pray for forgiveness, get into right relationship with Him, and get back in your position. God please supply us with what we need. Help us to give You exactly what you want from us. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN. JM
